Murray has been in the music business since the early 80s. At the young age of 14, he helped create a band called Harley Express. This group of four young area musicians found success playing small venues in the area playing mostly for tips.
As Murray became older and more experienced with the music business, he decided to create a new band. This band was called Night Shift. During the years with Night Shift, he entertained large crowds all throughout Ontario, Canada where he lives. Some of the well known artists he has had the privilege of performing with include: The Good Brothers, Terry Sumsion, Thomas Wade, and The Wilkinsons.
Murray took a short time off from the live music scene to pursue song writing, then returned with a new band a few years later. The new band was named Common Thread. “This band is jam packed with talent,” says Murray. It’s a four piece band with twice as many instruments. Mike Dalton sings and plays electric and acoustic lead guitar as well as fiddle, banjo, and harp. Steve Souliere is the bass player of the group and a fine vocalist as well. He also plays the mandolin in the show. Fatty Smith is the drummer of the group keeping everyone rockin’ with his amazing drumming abilities. Murray adds his vocals, guitar and keyboard talents to the group. You may catch them playing in your area from time to time.
Murray is currently working on his debut CD to be released March/06. This CD is dedicated to all of the farmers across our great country and he has written 3 farm related songs that will be included on the disk.
The first song is called Farmin’ Life. This song deals with the challenges of running a farm in today’s marketplace. It’s definitely a song that will let the listener know exactly what us farmers go through every day and what we miss out on.
The second song is called Thank a Farmer. It's a song that raises awareness on what a farmer supplies to the rest of the world for their everyday needs. I’m sure some of these things the general public is not even aware of.
The third song is a song called Farmer Joe. It is a song the many farmers can relate to. A farmer has a few bad years on his farm, can’t pay the bills and is forced out of farming. The valuable farm land he once had was bought out by industry and turned into part of the city.
There are nine songs in total on the CD. Some of the other tracks deal with some serious issues like child abduction as well as some light hearted humorous songs that are truly entertaining to listen to.
